onem (one miles) · Effective 2026-10-06
onem is a location-based social chat app. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It is written for the app as it actually behaves — if you find a difference between this page and the app, tell us and we will fix one of the two.
onem has no login form. When you first open the app we create an anonymous account through Firebase Authentication. It is tied to that installation of the app, not to a person. We do not collect your email address, phone number, or real name at sign-up, and we do not ask for your contacts.
Because the account is anonymous, it cannot be recovered. If you delete and reinstall the app, you are a new person to us — your profile, credits, chats and manner temperature do not come back. Subscriptions do come back, because the App Store and Google Play restore those.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Nickname, gender, year of birth | To show you to other people and to confirm you are 18 or older. Your exact year of birth is never shown to anyone — others only see a five-year age band. |
| Optional profile details: name, city, occupation, interests, photo | Shown on your profile. All optional; you can clear them at any time. |
| Approximate location (latitude and longitude) | To find people near you and to compute distance. Your coordinates are never sent to other users. Lists show only a distance; map pins are deliberately offset by roughly 120–400 m so a pin cannot be used to find your address. Location is optional — if you skip it we use a default point and only your distance accuracy suffers. |
| Chat messages, photos sent in chat, and stories | The service itself. Stories are deleted 24 hours after posting. |
| Ratings, blocks and reports | Safety. Ratings form a "manner temperature" shown on profiles. Reports are read by a person; we do not auto-punish. |
| Purchase records | Store transaction identifiers, the product purchased, and when. We never see your card details — Apple and Google process payment and only tell us that a valid purchase exists. |
| Device and usage data | Firebase Analytics collects country, language, device model, app version and session activity. We also send screen names and events such as "message sent". We do not send your nickname or any free text to analytics. |
| Push token | To deliver chat notifications. |
Phone photos normally carry EXIF metadata including the GPS coordinates where they were taken. onem re-encodes every photo on your device before uploading it — profile photos, chat photos and stories alike — which strips that metadata. We do this even for small images. Uploaded photos are stored privately; chat photos are readable only by the two people in that conversation, through links that expire.
There is no advertising in onem, no ad SDK, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising or for cross-context behavioural advertising.
We do not sell your personal information.
Our servers and databases are in the United States. If you use onem from elsewhere, your data is transferred there.
We keep your data while your account exists. Stories are deleted after 24 hours. When you delete your account we immediately erase your profile — nickname, optional details, photo, interests and your stored location. We keep a record that the account existed, without its identifying content, so that conversations other people had with you do not break, and so we can answer billing questions. Messages you already sent remain in the other person's conversation, the same way a text message you sent stays on the recipient's phone.
Depending on where you live you may have additional rights (for example under the GDPR or the CCPA), including the right to a copy of your data, to correction, to deletion, and to complain to a supervisory authority. Email us and we will act on the request. Because accounts are anonymous, we may be unable to identify which account is yours unless you write from the app or give us enough detail to find it — that limit is a consequence of not collecting your identity.
onem is for adults. You must be 18 or older. We ask for your year of birth during onboarding and refuse the account if it indicates you are under 18; the server enforces this as well as the app. This is self-reported and is not identity verification. If you believe a minor is using onem, email us and we will remove the account.
Traffic is encrypted in transit. Uploaded photos are kept in private storage and served only through short-lived links. Every API request must carry a valid authentication token, and the chat database enforces its own rules so that only participants can read a conversation. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.
